“If the bee disappeared off the face of the earth, man would only have four years left to live.”
― Maurice Maeterlinck, The Life of the Bee

We are excited to be offering the adopt a hive program.   If you have been tuning into the podcast or following us on Instagram or Facebook, you know how our hives are growing at their new location.

After college, Dad started beekeeping in the early 70’s.  As kids we were lucky to help with harvesting honey and keeping the hives.   Nowadays, every time we see a bee in the garden, we can’t help but think of Dad.   For us, keeping bees is not only vital for the future of farming but also important for continuing Dad’s legacy.

Recent years have been especially hard on bees and their keepers.  Generally, beekeepers are experiencing annual losses of more than 30%  caused by parasites, pesticides, loss of native forage and colony collapse disorder.

As we all know, bees are essential to the health of the food supply. More than 100 different crops (one-third of the foods we eat) depend on pollination. While native bees do some of the work, it’s honeybees that do the bulk of the pollination for agricultural crops.

By adopting a hive, you will help sustain a healthy hive for one season and purchase equipment and organic treatments to save the bees against varroa and other pests.
